Provenance
This cabinet was presumably made as a gift for Eastlake’s friend, Sir Arthur William Blomfield, on the occasion of his mariage to Caroline Harriet Smith in Suffolk in 1860. It was also meant to honor Blomfield’s father, Charles James Blomfield, who had been Bishop of London until his death in 1857. The piece’s whereabouts until recently are unknown, it resurfaced in Luxembourg and then northern France in the early 2010’s.Join our mailing list
