Collection of George Janin, Paris, 1880’s, who presumably acquired the vases at one of the International exhibitions, most likely Paris in 1878 - George Janin emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1892, bringing the vases with him - By descent to his son Alban Janin (1880 - 1948) and his two granddaughters, Mrs. Lalonde and Mrs. Claire Janin-Duranleau, until 1999 - Private collection, Montreal, 1999-2017.

The original drawing for this vase, dated ‘May 1872’, as well as a period photograph of an example fitted with an oil lamp, are in the collection of the Musée Bouilhet-Christofle. It is important to note that one of the examples offered here is the very same vase which was photographed. It is recognizable by a few tiny holes in the enamel. We are grateful for Mrs. Gros of the Bouilhet-Christofle Museum for her valuable generosity and help in cataloguing this lot.
